This U.S. Civil War, Merwin & Bray Ballard, .54 caliber carbine rifle is in good working order. The hammer and lever action is smooth. The trigger pull is extremely light and easy. There is an even age patina over the metal of the rifle. The bore is in good condition with no signs pitting though there are very slight signs of minor rust. The rifling does show some wear. The original flip-up sight measuring 100, 250 and 500 yds is on the rifle along with the original sling swivels. The stock is a very nice, dark walnut color with some damage (view photos). There are a few cracks in the butt of the stock with the longest measuring to about 5 inches. A chip is present on the top butt of the stock near the butt plate. A few dings are also visible throughout the stock as well. This rifle is stamped with serial number 416 (view photos). These rifles were manufactured between 1862 and 1865.
