This is a fine example of a very rare Swiss 1893 Mannlicher manufactured by S.J.C. Neuhausen in perfect working order. The stock is a very nice dark color in extremely good condition with a few minor dings. The original leather sling is included with the purchase of this rifle. Bluing on the receiver is worn though the bluing on the rest of the rifle is well preserved. This rifle is serial number 1798 and all serials are matching. Also, this particular rifle bears the inspection stamp of Major Schmidt characterized by a "S" with a cross above the "S" and was retired from military service in 1927 as indicated by the "P 27" stamped onto the receiver. Swiss Mannlichers are rare for two reasons: very few were manufactured and many were intentionally destroyed by Swiss soldiers during drills. The Swiss in general were not particuarly pleased with the 1893 carbine as it was difficult to strip and reassemble the bolt and because of the poor accuracy. The 1893 was eventually replaced by the Schmidt-Rubin 1905 Carbine. This rifle will be shipped in a plastic, proctective hard case. Insurance is required. SPECIFICATIONS: Overall Length: 39.75"; Barrel: 21"; Weight: 6.60 lbs; Action: Mannlicher straight-pull; Bore: Shiney w/strong lands and grooves; Caliber: 7.5 x 54 Swiss; Bluing: Receiver 70%, rest of rifle very good. |
