This is a fine example of a very rare Swiss Model 1893 Mannlicher manufactured by in perfect working order. The stock is a very nice medium to dark color in extremely good condition. There are only few imperfections in the stock of only minor importance (veiw photos). Bluing on this rifle is in good condition and exceeds 80% though bluing on the receiver is slightly worn. This rifle is serial number 4850 and was manufactured by Eidgenossische Waffenfabrik, Bern. All serials are matching on this rifle. Also, this particular rifle bears the inspection stamp of Major Schmidt characterized by a "S" with a cross above the "S". Other proof marks on this rifle include, but are not limited to, the "Shooting Test Passed" and a "V" with a cross above the "V" (stamp of Major Vogelsang?).

Swiss Mannlichers are rare for two reasons: very few were manufactured and many were intentionally destroyed by Swiss soldiers during drills. The Swiss in general were not particuarly pleased with the 1893 carbine as it was difficult to strip and reassemble the bolt and because of its poor accuracy. The 1893 was eventually replaced by the Schmidt-Rubin 1905 Carbine.

This rifle will be shipped in a plastic, proctective hard case. Insurance is required.
