This a scarce Swiss Canton Thurgau militia rifled musket Model 1842/59, serial number 11 and bayonet.

The rifle was manufactured by August Francotte of Liege, Belgium as indicated by markings on the lockplate and on the left side of the barrel. The right side of the buttstock displays Francotte's cartouche with a "Crown over AF". Three barrel band configuration. Brass barrel bands and trigger guard. Steel buttplate. Cantonal militia markings and crests are stamped on the barrel along with some other markings. There are also several other numbers and proofs stamped on barrel, bands and stock. Interesting rear sight adjustable to 700 paces. The ramrod and the hammer screw are original to the musket.

CONDITION: Excellent.  Percussion lock is in excellent working order. Polished steel finish on all the metal parts. Some scattered light patina. Very nice stock with some handling marks. Original finish on the stock and no cracks. The bayonet is in very good condition with some light patina throughout.

Very attractive and scarce Swiss rifled musket! Serial # 11.
