Development of the VZ58 began in 1956. The rifle was designed to use the Soviet intermediate 7.62 x 39 mm cartridge rather than the existing Czech 7.62 x 45 mm round. Up until 1984, over 920,000 rifles were produced and utilized by armed forces of the Czech and Slovak Republics, Cuba and several Asian and African nations. The VZ58 was produced in three primary variants: VZ58 P (fixed buttstock made of Bakelite material), VZ58 Z (featuring metal wire stock folding to the right side) and the VZ58 Pi (similar to the VZ58 P, but also included a receiver-mounted side rail to attach a NSP-2 night sight).

This parts kit includes all rifle parts with the exception of the milled receiver which has been cut in order to comply with United States federal import restrictions.
